Trauma-Focused EMDR Intensives with Amanda Whitehurst, LICSW, SEP
Welcome! I’m Amanda, a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and EMDR therapist specializing in trauma-focused EMDR intensives for adults. I work with individuals seeking a deeper, more effective way to process trauma, anxiety, panic, and long-standing relational patterns—often as a supplement to ongoing therapy.
Many clients come to me after gaining insight in weekly therapy but still feeling stuck. EMDR intensives offer a focused, time-limited way to engage trauma processing more fully, with continuity and care.
Experience and Approach
I have been practicing EMDR therapy since 2019 and have found that EMDR intensives often allow for more cohesive and meaningful progress than weekly sessions alone. This format gives the brain enough time to build on its work, rather than repeatedly starting and stopping trauma processing.
I use Somatic and Attachment Focused EMDR (SAFE EMDR), an approach designed to prioritize nervous system regulation, pacing, and attachment safety. SAFE EMDR helps reduce the risk of overwhelm while supporting deeper access to the root of distress.
I am also a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) through Somatic Experiencing International. I often call upon somatic principles in supporting clients through an intensive process.
Why EMDR Intensives
EMDR intensives are not about pushing harder—they’re about creating the right conditions for healing. For many adults, this means:
More sustained trauma processing
Greater continuity and momentum
Clearer integration between sessions
Faster access to relief
Intensives can be especially helpful for clients who feel ready to engage more deeply or who want to supplement ongoing therapy.
What to Expect
Clients often describe my style as calm, steady, and attuned. I focus on:
Safety and nervous system awareness
Clear structure and transparency
Respect for your pace and capacity
All EMDR intensives are offered virtually for adults located in New York, California, Washington DC, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Utah, Florida, and South Carolina.
